Carmina: "We must avoid damaging Agrigento's image as the Capital of Culture."

Agrigento should have enjoyed a year of revitalization, culture, and development. Instead, with just a few months to go until the end of 2025, the Italian Capital of Culture has become a missed opportunity , marred by delays, waste, and inadequate governance.
This was stated by Five Star Movement MP Ida Carmina , who announced the filing of a parliamentary question to request urgent intervention and extraordinary monitoring of the management and use of public funds allocated to the initiative.
The document recalls the report of the Court of Auditors , which highlighted serious organizational and management issues within the Agrigento 2025 Foundation : confusion of responsibilities, lack of control, delays in reporting and the concrete risk of failure to achieve the pre-established objectives.
"I had already denounced in recent months," Carmina continues, "the management bias of this event and the need for intervention from above to prevent a project born to enhance Agrigento from backfiring . Today, the Court of Auditors confirms my concerns point by point: immediate action is needed to ensure transparency, compliance with the rules, and proper use of public resources ."
In her question, the parliamentarian asks for consideration of the activation of public finance inspection services and the adoption of measures to safeguard the image of the Italian Capital of Culture .
"We cannot allow," he concludes, "the mismanagement of a few to discredit an entire region. Agrigento and its province deserve respect, competence, and management worthy of their history and cultural heritage . The hope is that the final months of the year will serve not only to recover what is possible, but also to shed full light on the responsibilities of those who failed to seize an extraordinary opportunity for collective redemption."
